Am I Done Quilting QS#2?

The problem with this whole QuiltStorm thing is that, even though the quilts are supposed to be fast fast fast, I keep thinking about quality control. Well, I guess that's a good thing, since it's supposed to be a skill-builder.

I've got a question for you. On QS#2, here, I made roughly parallel meandering lines widthwise across the quilt at about 2" intervals. Does that look like enough to you?

Functionally, it's fine. I found a thin wool blanket to use as batting (per Libby's idea), and the backing is a high-quality surplus bedsheet, so this sucker is going to be both warm and comfy. But, I've wondered whether it would look sharper if I doubled up the quilting, either by adding new lines between the existing quilt lines, or by adding lengthwise lines to make a kind of meandering grid.

Or, should I just declare victory and bind that sucker? What do you think?

(To get Mrs.5000's fancy camera to photograph the back of the quilt, I had to put the book on the quilt to give it something to focus on. Undifferentiated olive green was blowing its little camera mind.)

Quick quilts are like speed typing -- you want to go fast, but too many mistakes and the end product is not worth it. So you are right to be thinking quality control.

I think the quilted lines one way and the strips another way is fine. If there were batting, I might worry that it wasn't anchored sufficiently, but with a blanket, I don't see a problem. The back would be more interesting with more quilting, but I wonder whether it would detract from the front -- I rather like the strong, clean stripe design. It's a lovely quilt.

So that was no help ...

Bind it, you are done! It will be soft and cuddly jsut as it is. More stitching might make it more stiff. A an fascinated by your QS quilts. They are aweseome!

Ah . . . remember, I do art quilts not functional stuff, so my first thought was, "ooo . . . more quilting please!!" but, in reality, what you've got is good . . . move on, McDuff!

I like the simple wavy lines, so in my inexpert opinion, you are done!

Since the whole reason for quilting is to keep the batting from separating and making lumps, and because you don't have batting in it, there is enough quilting. On the other hand is there some style of quilting you would like to try? If so this is a great practice piece to try it on.

I definitely say declare victory and bind. But then my preference is always for the LEAST amount of quilting possible because I think it makes the final product softer and cuddlier.

I'm with libby - the sooner that sucker is done the better IMHO. Bind it up and you're good to go.
